Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS)

Advanced Planning and Scheduling (APS) describes the planning, but also the managing and monitoring supply chains. The focus is on the entire production and supply chain of a company. An APS system should provide an overview of missing materials, capacity bottlenecks on machines and delivery shortages, as well as enable planners to identify displayed bottlenecks as simply and optimally as possible.

An important function of APS is the simulation capability to generate different scenarios from which the planner can select the optimal one. Current trends in the field of APS are moving towards a semi-automated solution in which users only intervene in a regulating manner.
